Tabla Classes – Rhythm, Discipline & Cultural Connection

SJM Youth School’s Tabla Class offers students a dynamic opportunity to learn traditional Indian percussion while building focus, coordination, and a deep appreciation for rhythm.

Through structured and engaging lessons, students learn:

  • Basic Bols– Foundational strokes such as Na, Tin, Dha, Dhin, taught with clarity and repetition
  • Taal System– Understanding rhythmic cycles like Teen Taal, Dadra, Keherva and how they shape music
  • Hand Technique– Developing strength, precision, and control in both the Dayan (right drum) and Bayan (left drum)
  • Compositions– Learning Kaidas, Relas, Tukdas, and Parans appropriate for each age group
  • Laya & Tempo– Training the ear to maintain steady rhythm and transition between slow, medium, and fast speeds
  • Group Practice– Building coordination, listening skills, and ensemble confidence
